Please note: Campers of all ages are welcome at all workshops – no previous experience is required.
Visual Arts – The Puppet Factory with Madeline McKinnell
Come join Madeline, long-time puppet builder, high school teacher, arts educator, and all-round maker of fun things in the wacky world of puppetry! We will explore how to transform your dream self or your favourite imaginative fantasy creature into a paper mache hand puppet. This fun and messy workshop will have you shaping, painting and decorating your puppets and transforming them into performers! And if that doesn’t sound fun enough, we will be collaborating on a largescale stage performer puppet! Intrigued There is never a dull moment in the world of puppets!
Fine Arts – Vintage Fabric Fun with Johanna Clark
Johanna is back – your fellow fabric enthusiast! She has a background in fashion design, is a seamstress extraordinaire, and is a vintage clothing store owner. This year our Fine Arts workshop will delve into the wonderful world of vintage fabrics and how to transform them into your very own dream fashion wear, stage costume or even a fantastical vintage accessory. Get your creativity flowing and make something groovy – undo it, redo it, twist it, sew it, glue it, swag it… the ideas are endless!
Drama – Acting the Quinn Way – with Quinn WayLaing
Where do we bequinn……If you are interested in the theatre, or dramatic arts in general, come and join us in Acting the Quinn Way! Quinn is a studied young actor, improv enthusiast, down-right jokester, recent Honours graduate at Mount Allison University and former Blue Skies Kids Arts Camp Counsellor (as well as camper). This fun, inspiring and playful workshop will have you exploring your inner artiste and will offer a little of everything including improvisation, character creation, voice, movement and a small scene study that will help you build confidence to “play”on the stage. In a welcoming, supportive and inclusive space Quinn will help you find, build and get into a “character” as you learn some of the acting essentials and performer techniques… did we mention all the while having loads of fun?
Music – Musical Magic with Jen Curtis
Calling all young music enthusiasts! By day, Jen is a teacher, choir director and band leader extraordinaire. By night, she’s a not-so-secret ukulele superfan and a budding drummer. Jen is returning to camp for a second year and is excited to take you on an exciting journey into the world of singing, songwriting and instrumental play. This workshop has all the right stuff for a fun-filled exploration of pentatonic melodies, lyrics and musical creativity. Unlock your musical imagination and learn how to express yourself through music in this supportive and safe space. No experience needed- come explore music with Jen and some new found friends.
Movement – Hoop Revolutions with Meghan Robinson
Spin into the world of modern hoop dance in this funk filled and energetic movement workshop. Come join Meghan who has been hooping since 2012 and loves to share this innovative and creative art form with others. Hooping offers a profound sense of freedom of creative expression, has a calming effect on the mind and is tons of fun! Learn the basic elements of hoop dance: core hooping, off body hand hooping and free flow; and some eye-catching tricks that will feel great AND impress! We will also make our own hoops for you to take home and/or into the streets to spread the joy of hooping with others! Let’s turn the beats UP and jam away the day with grass underfoot, Blue Skies above and nothing to lose but our worries!
